Front-runner in the petroleum industry

Knowledge Based Engineering was introduced in Aker Solutions (at the time Aker Maritime) in 1999 with the purpose to automate time demanding tasks in the engineering of complicated structures. On the back of promising results in the automotive and aerospace industries and others, efforts were undertaken to make KBE technologies feasible in the offshore industry.

Innovation

Development both in-house and in partnership with TechnoSoft, resulted in a solution that has already proved itself and provided significant benefits for several Aker Solutions development projects. Among the important innovations, was an early and foresighted use of the then emerging XML. The in-house development akXML was the first XML format capable of representing offshore structure product models.

Evolving through experience

The KBeDesign™ team currently supports several important Aker Solutions products, and are continuously adding more, along with experiences and lessons learnt from existing products. KBE solutions will be made available to more and more projects and products in the coming years, further increasing the competitive edge of Aker Solutions.
